Moyes provides update on West Ham January transfers

|

David Moyes has insisted that a recent improvement in results won’t stop West Ham making signings in January.

The Hammers have picked up four points from their last two games, beating West Bromwich Albion and drawing with Tottenham in their last game.

Moyes was asked following the 1-1 draw with Spurs, whether the recent results caused his January transfer plans to change.

“No, it doesn’t affect my thinking,” said Moyes, as quoted by Sky Sports.

“We need some extra players, we’re quite well endowed in certain areas, upfront we’ve got a lot of players to choose from, but we don’t have it in other areas.”

Despite confessing they’ve got more than enough striking options, Moyes had “no idea” about a recent report that linked Chelsea with a move for Andy Carroll.

OPINION

It’s foolish to think that a recent improvement in form would change Moyes’ need to sign players, with hopefully the board feeling the same way. Moyes’ squad clearly lack depth especially in midfield and if the club want to survive in the Premier League, they need to make signings. With West Ham having two games in quick succession and a small squad, it’s only a matter of time before the fixture pile-up catches up with them. It could even happen this Sunday when they face Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, and if they don’t get a result, it would be clear indication that the club need to make signings.
