Besiktas are in advanced talks with West Ham to sign striker Javier Hernandez, according to Goal.

The football site claim that the Turkish side’s chairman Fikret Orman is in London negotiating a deal with Hammers top brass and an agreement is now close for the Mexican to move before the 31 January cut-off.

Goal report that West Ham are set to sell Hernandez at a massive loss, with the fee to be £7.5million just six months after the east Londoners unveiled him as a £16million new signing.

It is said that an agreement is close and that the centre-forward will be offered a contract worth £3million-a-year.

West Ham manager David Moyes has insisted it will take big money for his club to sell any of their major assets this month.

But the futures of the Hammers’ three senior centre-forwards, Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Diafro Sakho, are all in doubt after they failed to establish themselves as regulars in the starting XI in the first half of the season.

Good move for West Ham?

Hernandez arrived to much fanfare last summer but he has failed to live up to the reputation that once made him such a feared marksman in the Premier League and Bundesliga. A lethal finisher with an impressive scoring record, he is not ideally suited to Moyes’ physical playing style, which asks the spearhead to play with his back to goal, and is far better off in a team that plays to his penalty box strengths and creates plenty of chances. Hernandez’s 21 West Ham appearances have yielded four goals but he has not scored since October and cashing in for the Hammers is no bad move, although an £8.5million loss in just six months would be an eyebrow-raising one.

Likely to happen?

Aged 29 and robbed of some of the vim that once made him an electrifying presence, Hernandez appears better suited to the Turkish league than the Premier League. With talks reportedly at an advanced stage, it appears as if this deal could now go through as Besiktas look for a proven replacement for Cenk Tosun, who recently joined Everton.
