Andy Carroll has informed West Ham that he has an ankle injury making him unable to train, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claim that scans conducted on the forward’s ankle by the Hammers are believed not to show any sign of injury.

The 29-year-old hasn’t featured for West Ham in their last three games, missing both FA Cup clashes against Shrewsbury Town.

The Daily Mirror report that West Ham are aware that Chelsea want their £100,000-a-week forward on loan, however no formal offer has been made for Carroll’s services.

West Ham would prefer a deal which sees Carroll leave the club permanently, with the Hammers wanting offers north of £20million.

The forward has only scored two goals this season in 14 appearances across all competitions.

OPINION

This is an unprofessional action for Carroll to take, that West Ham will not tolerant if true. The Hammers have been patient with the 29-year-old over the years, as he has been plagued with injury. Carroll has only played 128 games for the club, despite being with them since July 2013. When you consider his high wages, it’s unacceptable that he would even consider making himself unable to train; when scans imply he’s perfectly fine. Chelsea’s interest, while shocking, has been well documented in recent weeks, and it looks like it’s unsettled the forward. The 29-year-old may be keen to move, but this isn’t the way to go about it.
