Andre Ayew has completed his move from West Ham to Swansea in a late deadline day deal, according to Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg.

The reliable journalist was quoted in the Guardian’s live transfer blog on Wednesday night [08:28pm] as saying that the 28-year-old’s move to the Liberty Stadium has been finalised, with all that appears to remain is the official confirmation from the two clubs.

“Hearing that Andre Ayew to Swansea is done,” Steinberg said.

Ayew signed for West Ham for £20.5million from the Swans in August 2016 become their record signing, but he has started to slip down the pecking order since David Moyes took charge at the London Stadium.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Hammers will make a loss on the Ghana international as he will leave for Wales in a deal worth £18million after completing his medical.

He has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring six goals.

Good move for West Ham?

Ayew may have a decent goalscoring record this season for someone who usually plays out wide, but he has not been in the best of form and if selling him means strengthening elsewhere then so be it. But it seems that the Hammers are trying to sign Preston forward Jordan Hugill, with widespread reports claiming he is on his way to the London Stadium for £8million. Selling Ayew and signing Hugill makes this a poor bit of business. It does not seem as though there’s time to get much more business done.

Likely to happen?

It has been in the offing for a while but it now seems Ayew will leave West Ham after a year and a half. He has slipped down the pecking order so Moyes may not have been too desperate to cling on to him and £18million is not a terrible fee if he’s not in Moyes’ plans, even if it does mean a slight loss.
