Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen for Anthony Martial to be included in a player-plus-cash swap deal to take Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper report that United have taken the lead over rivals Manchester City in the race for Sanchez as they are willing to offer more cash, or any player as part of the deal.

The Standard claim that confidence is growing at United that they will be able to complete a deal for Sanchez, although a fee is yet to be agreed.

It is said that United are willing to let Henrikh Mkhitaryan go as part of the deal, but Wenger is thought to be keen on French international speed machine Martial instead.

However, a straight cash deal with either United or City is reported to remain a possibility.

Good move for Arsenal?

Martial would be a brilliant addition to the Arsenal squad.

The young French winger has shown his quality on many an occasion for United, but remains an impact player, coming off the bench instead of being handed starts.

That would change at Arsenal, and he would add some serious firepower to their attack with his pace and direct play from the wings.

Mkhitaryan would also be a good addition, but it is easy to see why Wenger is exploring the option of trying to bring in Martial instead.

Likely to happen?

Despite Martial remaining on the bench, Jose Mourinho has in the past suggested that he rates Martial very highly.

He is definitely less likely to let Martial go as part of the deal, but if he really wants Sanchez then it may yet happen.

Mkhitaryan has been well out of the first-team picture recently, and remains the most likely to be included in a player-plus-cash deal.

The other thing to be considered here is the fact that City remain in the race and could yet steal in to secure their man.
