Tottenham Hotspur are to offer playmaker Christian Eriksen a new contract worth at least £100,000-a-week in an effort to ward off interest from Juventus, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Spurs are set to open talks with the Denmark international over the improved deal, which will see him get a significant raise on his current £70,000-a-week wages.

The Mail claim that the new contract is set to be worth six figures a week as the club prepare new contracts for several of their stars, including Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

It is said that Italian champions Juventus are among a number of top teams circling for the 25-year-old.

Eriksen has made 23 appearances in the Premier League for Spurs this season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists.

The midfield dynamo’s recent form has been particularly impressive, registering four assists and three goals in his last nine appearances.

OPINION

A sensible move from Tottenham, and one that has been widely expected. With the new stadium nearing completion, and the club in a massive fight to maintain their Champions League status, there is a need to tie down their current stars. Eriksen is very much a massive part of the Spurs squad at the moment, and will no doubt be the first of many to receive new deals in the coming months. The indications are that the Dane will accept a new contract with the club, as he has recently stated that he is happy in north London.
