Fulham have seen off interest in Ryan Sessegnon from Tottenham this month, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the London giants have made a push to prise the left-sided sensation from Craven Cottage before the January cut-off next month.

The Sun report that Fulham have battened down the hatches and seen off Spurs’ attempts to sign Sessegnon, 17, for what is a third consecutive window.

The teenager has made remarkable progress in the last 12 months and established himself as one of the outstanding players outside of the English top flight.

Sessegnon, who can play anywhere on the flank and swaps between left-back and left midfield on almost a match-by-match basis, has scored a remarkable six times in Fulham’s last four matches, including a double in their 3-1 Championship win at Barnsley on Saturday.

He has scored 11 goals in 29 league matches this season, and also weighed in with four assists, even though over half of those games have come in defence.

Good move for Tottenham?

All the signs are that Sessegnon is that rarity, a young English player whose potential is off the scale. The Londoner has created a lot of buzz since his debut senior campaign ended with him named in the Championship team of the season, a stunning achievement for someone who did not even turn 17 until May of last year, at which point he signed his first professional deal. His recent performances in the English second tier have been remarkable and he would be a brilliant addition to the Tottenham side.

Likely to happen?

Surely, Spurs aren’t going to sign Sessegnon and Lucas Moura by next Wednesday. That would surely be too much to expect, especially as Fulham do not want to sell. The best that Tottenham can hope for is probably a buy-to-loan deal in which the Kington-reared wonderkid is signed and returned to the Cottage for the remainder of the season.
