Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Coventry City young midfielder Tom Bayliss, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that Spurs have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old wonderkid, who has caught the attention of several clubs with his impressive displays so far this term.

The Mail claim that Tottenham’s scouts have been blown away by Bayliss’ pace, composure and passing range, with Championship side Derby County the other side showing serious interest.

Bayliss put in a man of the match performance as the Sky Blues overcame Premier League side Stoke 2-1 in the third round of the FA Cup, a result that led to the sacking of Mark Hughes.

The 18-year-old only made his senior debut in November, but has since made eight appearances, scoring one goal as Coventry push for promotion from League Two.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

Bayliss has been a revelation for Coventry this year after being handed his senior debut by Mark Robins just two months ago.

The youngster has completed 90 minutes in each of their last five league matches, with the Sky Blues winning four of those clashes.

If he keeps up this form, it seems inevitable that he will be packing his bags for a bigger club very soon.

And Spurs seem well-placed to be in the mix for his signature, but a move to bring Bayliss to the club would obviously represent a long-term investment rather than a short-term signing.

Likely to happen?

If Spurs really want Bayliss, then there wouldn’t seem to be much that could stop them signing him.

However, the player himself may realise that playing regular football in the lower leagues, especially for a side pushing for promotion, would be more valuable than playing Under-23 Premier League football.

There will also be several other sides looking to sign Bayliss, but Spurs look to be the only Premier League side linked at the moment.
