Tottenham fans took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction at how Malcom won a penalty for Bordeaux in their win against Lyon on Sunday.

The Brazilian winger has been strongly linked to a move to Spurs this month, with some reports stating that he could join by next Wednesday’s transfer cut-off, while others stated he is likely to sign permanently and be loaned back to Bordeaux for the remainder of the campaign,

Caio Carrieri, who covers the Premier League for Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte, reported on his personal Twitter account last week that Tottenham are working on a mega-money deal to sign the Brazilian, 20, before 31 January in what would be a £50million deal made up of an initial £40million plus £10million of add-ons.

Due to the speculation, many Tottenham fans tuned in to watch him perform for his club in their televised Ligue 1 clash on Sunday afternoon.

Malcom started the match and was central to the action, particularly when he controversially won the penalty for their second goal.

The wide attacker fell to the ground in the 18-yard box despite what images showed was no contact with an opponent and he immediately sprung to his feet to convert the spot-kick for his eighth goal of the season, all of which have come in the league.

Bordeaux went on to win 3-1 but the main talking point was the manner in which Malcom won the penalty, which many Tottenham fans on social media were distinctly unimpressed with.

They variously described it as “embarrassing” and unbecoming of a Spurs player.
