Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he is ready to terminate the loan deal of Tottenham attacking midfielder Josh Onomah.

Speaking at his media conference on Friday afternoon, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of ESPN FC correspondent Dan Kilpatrick, the Spurs manager explained that he is weighing up whether to recall Onomah from his season-long loan at Aston Villa.

Tottenham have the option to call back the 20 year-old in the January window and rip up the original deal agreed last summer.

“Josh still continues there but we still have a week or 10 days to decide if he stays or we bring him back here,” Pochettino said, as quoted by journalist Ben Pearce.

England Under-21 international Onomah has been an influential figure Championship big hitters Villa, scoring four goals in 22 league appearances.

But he has not played in the club’s last two matches and was an unused substitute in their 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

OPINION

Tottenham have showed they will not hesitate to recall their rising stars from season-long loans if they, or the players, are not entirely happy with how things are working out. Cameron Carter-Vickers was recalled from his loan at Sheffield United on Monday before agreeing a fresh loan to Ipswich Town that was announced earlier today. Like Carter-Vickers was at United, Onomah has been a regular for Villa. But he has not played in the last two matches, which could prompt Pochettino in sanctioning a return to Tottenham and, most likely a new loan deal. The youngster is far better off being a regular at a Championship side than hanging around on the Spurs fringes. The more senior experience he can get at this stage of his development, the better.
