Cameron Carter-Vickers has agreed to join Ipswich Town on loan from Tottenham for the rest of the season, it has been announced.

Spurs revealed on their official Twitter account on Friday morning that the centre-back is heading out for a second loan of the season just days after being recalled from his spell at Sheffield United.

Spurs announced on their official website on Monday night that they had terminated the season-long loan of Carter-Vickers, 20, at Bramall Lane.

Four days later, the USA international is going out on loan again as he looks to get valuable first-team experience.

There are a number of senior defenders blocking his first-team path at White Hart Lane, including Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, while star man Toby Alderweireld is closing in on a return after two-and-a-half months on the sidelines.

On the face of it, the recall of Carter-Vickers at the start of the week was a curious decision. He had established himself in central defence for a team sixth in the league and challenging for promotion, making 17 appearances in all competitions and earning his first senior USA cap in November. Clearly, either the player or the Tottenham coaching staff were not entirely happy with the defender’s time at Sheffield United, even though he was playing regularly. Carter-Vickers is expected to slot straight into the team at Ipswich, who are 12th in the Championship, four points behind United, and are coached by the experienced Mick McCarthy.
