Tosun move to Everton all but done

|

Everton are confident of finally completing the on-off signing of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas, according to a reliable journalist.

Freelance football reporter Pete O’Rourke, who writes for ESPN FC, Football Insider and other reliable publications, reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the Merseysiders now expect to get the deal for the prolific forward “over the line”.

It comes after widespread reports, including in the Times on New Year’s Eve that Everton’s signing of Tosun had hit a hitch over the price.

The Goodison Park club had hoped to seal a £25million deal, including add-ons, but Besiktas were said to be holding out for £27million.

Manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that the signing of the striker was “in the wind” for Everton.

The former Frankfurt striker has proven himself to be a goal machine with Besiktas this season, scoring 14 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, with four of them coming in the Champions League group stages.

There have been a series of late twists in Everton’s pursuit of the Turkish goal machine just when the transfer had appeared to have been agreed at the end of last week. The striker was even spotted dining at a Muswell Hill restaurant on New Year’s Eve in a clear indication that he was primed to put the finishing touches to a deal after flying to England. With negotiations at a delicate stage, the completion of the transfer had been put on hold but the reliable O’Rourke’s update suggests that the Goodison faithful can now breathe a collective sign of relief. Tosun is seemingly about to be an Everton player.
