Arsenal came away from Stamford Bridge with a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Wednesday night, and there were plenty of talking points to take away from the game.

The Blues probably had the best chances over the 90 minutes, with former Gunner Cesc Fabregas guilty of missing a clear opening as he directed his header straight at David Ospina.

Andreas Christiansen missed another clear headed opportunity, while Arsenal struggled to fashion anything clear-cut in attack.

VAR made its second appearance in English football on the night, and referee Martin Atkinson did consult the system twice for penalty claims, but a full review was not initiated.

Worryingly for Arsenal, midfield general Jack Wilshere limped off with what looked to be an ankle injury, and Gunners fans will be waiting with bated breath to see the extent of the complaint.

Wilshere has been Arsenal’s best player recently, and looked in good touch early on as he scooped through a lovely pass to Alexandre Lacazette, who failed to keep his shot down.

The Gunners managed to hold on for a 0-0 draw and will be happy with that result as they welcome Chelsea to the Emirates in two weeks time.

This is Futbol have picked out three things we learned from Arsenal’s performance against Chelsea as the Gunners head into a crucial run of games that could define their season, including the sad decline of an attacking player.
