Newcastle United have opened talks with Crystal Palace about a January loan deal for left-back Pape Souare, according to a reliable journalist.

Geoff Peters, who works for Talksport, reported on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that the Magpies have already held positive discussions with the Eagles over a deal for the Senegal international.

Peters claims that all parties involved in the deal are keen on the move.

Souare joined Palace for an undisclosed fee from Ligue 1 side Lille in January 2015, with the Eagles thought to have paid around £3.5million for the Senegalese left-sided flyer.

He has since made 57 appearances for the club over the two years, and became a regular as they cemented their status as a Premier League club.

However, a devastating car crash that left Souare with thigh and jaw injuries saw him out of action for six months, and he has struggled to find his way back into the first-team under new boss Roy Hodgson.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Absolutely.

With Rafa Benitez restricted to the loan market this window, this is exactly the kind of deal that would represent a good move for the club.

Souare showed before his accident that he belongs at Premier League level, and it is a shame that he has found first-team opportunities limited since his return.

His pace and attacking threat will be a great addition for a Magpies squad crying out for a natural left-back.

Likely to happen?

Peters claims that both sides are keen on a deal, and that would suggest there is a possibility this one could indeed happen.

Palace will be keen to give Souare the opportunity to play first-team football again, and Newcastle desperately need a left-sided defender.

However, this is the first we have heard of this one, and there will be a long way to go in negotiations.
