Newcastle United are in the hunt for wantaway Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim in their live transfer blog (Saturday, 21:23) that the Nigeria international is seeking an exit from the King Power Stadium, where he has failed to make a real impact this season.

The Mirror report that the Magpies are “waiting in the wings” for the 21-year-old, who signed for the Foxes for £25million in the summer.

It is said that any deal depends on the outcome of Newcastle’s pursuit of Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen.

Iheanacho scored twice on Saturday as Leicester thrashed League One Peterborough 5-1 to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Absolutely.

For some unknown reason, Iheanacho is well out of favour at the King Power, despite the Foxes spending £25million on the Nigerian in the summer.

Iheanacho arrived with so much expectation, but has not been given the chance to fulfil it yet in the Midlands.

A move up north could be seriously fruitful however, with the Mapgies in need of a goalscorer, and Iheanacho showing what he can do with 21 goals at Manchester City after breaking into the first-team.

Likely to happen?

Unfortunately not.

Newcastle look set on bringing in Jorgensen from Feyenoord, and that deal looks to be inching slowly closer.

Also, Leicester would probably want to recuperate the £25million they paid for Iheanacho just seven months or so ago.

With the Magpies relucant to stump up the £20million wanted for Jorgensen, a deal for Iheanacho looks even more unlikely.
