Newcastle fans shared their excitement on social media as a report linked the Magpies with a move for Kevin Gameiro.
The Atletico Madrid forward was linked with a move after Rafa Benitez’s shortlist of attacking transfer targets was revealed by the Northern Echo.
The Northern Echo reported that Benitez’s list was given to Mike Ashley, and included Gameiro, Danny Ings as well as Islam Slimani.
Fans focused on Gameiro’s name, despite the newspaper claiming a deal was unlikely as Atletico Madrid would want £25million for his services.
However, even though supporters had doubts that they would see him at St James’ Park anytime soon; they still wanted to celebrate being linked with him.
One fan stated that Gameiro would be a class signing even though he wouldn’t join, while another despite admitting it would never happen, shared the forward was capable of keeping the Magpies in the Premier League.
The 30-year-old Europa League winner has played 18 times for Atletico Madrid this season, scoring six goals, but is keen to leave the club, according to the Echo’s report.
Tottenham and Swansea City are both thought to be interested in the centre-forward, with Swansea having already made an offer for him.
The Swans’ offer was in the region of £20million, but Gameiro wasn’t keen on a move to the club.

Will never happen but if it was we should go all out for Gameiro! He’d keep us up!

If #NUFC go and sign Bryan, Schurrle and Gameiro I may be impressed. However sad fact is we're more likely to sign Shola, Doom-bia and Santon. ?

It wouldn't be a transfer window without being linked to Gameiro. He's nearing the wrong end of 30, but I could definitely see him doing a job over the next two years if he came. #nufc

All 3 would be needed in all fairness. We have eyes Gameiro a number of times, he would be a coup. https://t.co/PN943AITla
