Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is keen on a move to Newcastle United as the Magpies remain locked in talks over a loan-to-buy deal for the 29-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report in their live transfer blog (20/01, 15:09) that the two clubs are now attempting to reach an agreement over a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

The Mail previously reported that Sparta wanted Newcastle to commit to a permanent transfer in the summer, and the Magpies are now reportedly in discussions over such a deal.

Slovakia international Dubravka has made 15 appearances this season for Sparta, who lie in second in the Czech Liga.

Good move for Newcastle United?

It is no secret that Newcastle are in need of a new goalkeeper, and Dubravka would be a solid option.

Karl Darlow and Rob Elliott are both decent stoppers, but Newcastle need a regular number one if they are to survive this season.

The 29-year-old has been in impressive form for club and country this year, and looks ready for a step up in competition.

A loan-to-buy deal looks to be a sensible one as the Magpies struggle with their finances this month.

Likely to happen?

All the signs look to be pointing towards a positive outcome for the Magpies.

It had been thought that Sparta’s insistence on a permanent deal in the summer may scupper any deal, but Newcastle now seem to be open to such a move.

The news that Dubravka is keen on a move is also promising, and this looks like a deal that could be completed in the coming week or so.
