Newcastle United target Nicolai Jorgensen is keen on a move to St. James’ Park and the challenge of leading the Magpies’ charge to stay in the Premier League, according to the Chronicle

The newspaper claim that Jorgensen is aware of the interest from Newcastle, and he is said to be interested in the prospect of leading the line for the club.

The Chronicle report that Feyenoord are open to a January sale after just sealing the return of Robin van Persie, and are resigned to losing the striker.

It is said that the 27-year-old Denmark international’s salary demands will not be an issue, but Newcastle will have to significantly raise their initial £14million bid, with the Eredivisie club holding out for £20million.

Good move for Newcastle United?

In many ways Jorgensen is a surprise target for Newcastle, who had tried to keep his name under wraps after submitting their first bid last week.

The Feyenoord target man, who stands at a colossal 6ft 3in, is in good form this season, scoring nine goals in 19 appearances in all competitions.

But is he the man to lead the Magpies to Premier League survival?

He is yet to be tested outside of the Netherlands, and his international record of eight goals in 28 appearances is nothing to write home about.

Likely to happen?

If Newcastle really want their man, and up their initial bid, then this looks likely.

Feyenoord are open to a move, the player is keen, and Newcastle are ready to sign him up.

Time is running out however, so any fresh bid needs to be submitted as soon as possible.
