Liverpool flop Lazar Markovic is moving closer to an exit from the club with Moscow rivals Spartak and Lokomotiv showing interest in the winger, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claim that Liverpool are open to offers for the 23-year-old, with West Bromwich Albion also weighing up an approach for the Serbia international.

The Echo report that Markovic has accepted that he must move on this month if he wants to kick-on from his disappointing time at Anfield, and a three-way tussle may ensue between the interested clubs.

Markovic was a £20million signing from Benfica in 2014, but has made just 34 appearances for the club in three-and-a-half years.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes.

Markovic has never really looked like living up to the hefty price tag Liverpool paid for his services in 2014, and it is best for all parties if he moves on.

The 23-year-old showed glimpses of his quality during a loan spell with Hull last season, but he has not managed to replicate that form on Merseyside.

Likely to happen?

All the reported approaches look to be in the early stages, but as long as Liverpool are not too unreasonable in their demands, Markovic should be on his way in the next few days.

There was heavy interest in the summer but no club was willing to meet the Reds’ reported £16million asking price, and that should hopefully not happen again.
