Aston Villa are eyeing up a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson and have sent a scout to run the rule over the 20-year-old, according to The Sun

The newspaper report that Steve Bruce deployed scout Tony Coton, who is a former goalkeeper himself, to watch Henderson in action for Shrewsbury, where he is starring on loan.

The Sun claim that Coton’s report was promising, with Villa looking to secure a regular number one choice in goal for next season.

Villa currently have Henderson’s United teammate Sam Johnstone on loan this season.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Villa would surely prefer to secure Johnstone’s future at the club by agreeing a permanent deal for him, but that is looking increasingly unlikely as Premier League interest grows.

Henderson would seem to be a good back-up option to that, with the goalkeeper putting in some brilliant performances for high-flying Shrewsbury in League One this season.

Likely to happen?

It is doubtful that either of the two stoppers are to get a look in at United any time soon, with David De Gea the clear number one at the club, and that should play into Villa’s hands.

Henderson will be well aware of his limited opportunities at Old Trafford, and Villa would look a good option for any young goalkeeper at the moment.
