Jamie Redknapp believes Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge is one of the best strikers in Europe when fit.

In an article for Sky Sports, the pundit revealed that he thought the forward would be an ideal signing on loan for Inter Milan or Sevilla; with the player’s fitness being his only issue.

“Whoever gets him, if you get a fit Daniel Sturridge, you’ve got one of the best strikers in Europe,” said Redknapp.

“He’s a brilliant player but it’s just fitness with him, he’s a talent and he’s got so much ability.

“He’d be a great signing for Sevilla or Inter Milan if they can keep him fit; they will be like ‘I knew he was good but I didn’t know he was this good’ if he can avoid injury.”

Injuries have seen Sturridge drop down the pecking order at the Reds, as he has only been able to make 55 league appearances in the last four season.

However, when the centre-forward has been fit; he’s been prolific for Liverpool over the last few seasons.

Since joining from Chelsea in 2013, Sturridge has scored 64 goals in 133 appearances for the Reds.

The Daily Star reported on Tuesday that AS Roma had joined the race for the forward’s signature with Liverpool willing to accept a £35m for the forward.

OPINION

Redknapp is right to praise Sturridge, as injuries have caused him to be underrated. While it’s bold to say he’d be among the best in Europe when fit, the striker has shown in the past that he has tons of ability. With the Liverpool forward looking more and more likely to leave the club in January; it’s a shame that it has come to this. A regularly fit Sturridge would still be welcomed at Anfield, but Jurgen Klopp knows he can’t rely on the 28-year-old to be available. Hopefully for his sake, the forward turns a corner when it comes to injury, and his next club benefits from a Sturridge who is able to fire on all cylinders.
