Simon Mignolet has revealed that he is considering his Liverpool future, after not featuring in the side’s last two games.

The goalkeeper last played for the Reds during their 2-1 victory against Burnley on New Year’s Day.

The Belgian international captained the Reds in that game, but the goalkeeper has not featured since.

Mignolet took no part in Liverpool’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Everton and was an unused sub during the Reds’ impressive 4-3 win against Manchester City in the league.

“I have to stay calm,” admitted Mignolet, as quoted by The Times.

“At the same time I have to think about my future, I am 30 years old and the World Cup is coming.”

Mignolet has made 21 appearances for Liverpool this season, conceding 27 goals and keeping seven clean sheets.

The Belgian international has been competing with Loris Karius for the number one jersey all season, which has limited his appearances.

The experienced goalkeeper has been with the Reds since 2013 after joining from Sunderland, with BBC Sport reporting at the time, that he cost the club £9million.

OPINION

Neither Karius or Mignolet look like goalkeepers worthy of being in a Premier League winning team. Liverpool’s next step is to be regularly competing for the title, and know that their current options aren’t the ones to help them in the near future. Karius is only 24-years-old, so could develop into a goalkeeper worthy of winning the Premier League, but Mignolet is as good as he’ll ever be. The Reds have constantly stuck with the Belgian despite high-profile errors over the last few seasons, and it’s about time they replaced him. The experienced goalkeeper, given his comments, clearly knows time is running down on his Liverpool career, and his exit is more of question of when then if.
