Liverpool are keen to tie down academy prospects Harry Wilson and Ovie Ejaria to new deals before sending them out on loan this month, according to the Liverpool Echo

The newspaper report that both academy graduates have been stalling on the new deals that have been put on the table by the club, with the two youngsters carefully considering their options.

The Echo claim that Liverpool want both Wilson and Ejaria to sign new deals before they sanction loan moves away for the remainder of the season in what would be a pair of January double deals.

Neither player has managed to make a matchday squad this season, and both are keen to gain minutes elsewhere, with several Championship teams said to be interested.

Good move for Liverpool?

This is the sensible move for Liverpool as both youngsters consider their options.

Ejaria has looked a fantastic prospect at the club after breaking into the first-team last season with eight appearances, but the attacking midfielder has struggled with injury in the time since.

Forward Wilson has only made one first-team appearance, in an FA Cup tie against Plymouth a year ago, but has been prolific for the club’s Under-23s.

He has a spectacular record from the wing, scoring 31 goals in 58 games for the development squad.

Likely to happen?

You would think that both would commit their futures to the club, but it is understandable that they are both considering all their options.

With both players now 20 years old, they will be looking to gain first-team action, and unless they make a big breakthrough, that is not likely to come at Anfield any time soon.

New deals and January loans look the most likely, but don’t rule out either turning round and pushing for a move away either.
