Liverpool have been installed the clear favourites to sign West Brom striker Salomon Rondon, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced the Merseyside giants at 2/1 on Friday evening to land the Venezuelan front man before the transfer window shuts next Wednesday.

Liverpool are ahead of rivals Chelsea (4/1) in the betting race, while Everton (8/1) and Wolves (12/1) also feature prominently.

This comes after the Sun claimed in its print edition yesterday (Page 52, Thursday January 25) that Liverpool could go head to head with Merseyside rivals Everton for Rondon.

It is said that West Brom could sell their attacker for over £15million.

Good move for Liverpool?

Rondon is a powerful physical presence, but hardly a player of the calibre needed by Liverpool. He has scored 23 goals in 105 games for West Brom and his size makes him a handful but he would not fit into the Merseysiders’ style of play and is hardly the player that could fire 20-plus goals a season at Anfield.

Likely to happen?

Despite the low bookies’ odds, it is very difficult to see Rondon moving to Liverpool. With strikers of the calibre of Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings unable to get a game, why would it be any different for the Venezuelan?
