Thomas Lemar has been omitted from the Monaco squad for their second match running – and Liverpool fans have predicted on Twitter this is a sign he could be headed to Anfield in a stunning late January transfer.

The French champions announced on their official website on Saturday that the winger will play no part in their Ligue 1 clash against Marseille on Sunday afternoon.

Monaco claim that Lemar’s absence from their 20-man squad for the second time this week is due to a thigh injury.

But a section of Liverpool supporters on social media have claimed that this is a sign that he could move to Anfield in a mega-money switch by next Wednesday’s transfer cut-off.

It has not been lost on the Anfield faithful that Philippe Coutinho missed the first two games of this month for the Reds with a similar complaint before completing his £142million move to Barcelona.

Lemar is among those on Jurgen Klopp’s reported radar after Liverpool failed in an attempt to sign the France international last August and have been strongly linked with signing him again this month.

Liverpool fans now believe that Lemar’s late January injury could be a sign of some frenetic transfer activity.
