Everton’s Coleman returns to training

|

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Seamus Coleman is closer to being available for Everton, after returning to training.

The Toffees boss shared the good news at Everton’s general meeting on Tuesday, but didn’t give a specific date for Coleman’s return.

“Seamus Coleman is due back, he has started training,” said Allardyce, as quoted by Sky Sports.

The right-back has not featured this season due to suffering a horrific double leg break while on international duty for Republic of Ireland in March.

The incident occurred during a crucial World Cup qualifier against Wales.

Neil Taylor slide in on Coleman causing the injury, the Welsh defender received a red card for the tackle, but then had his suspension extended by FIFA due to the nature of the challenge.

Last season, Coleman featured 28 times for the Toffees, scoring four goals and grabbing four assists.

OPINION

The defender has been a key player for Everton over the last few seasons and news that a return is in sight, will give everyone a boost. Coleman’s return should be carefully handled given the nature of his injury, and hopefully Allardyce doesn’t rush him back too soon. Allardyce is an experienced manager and no doubt aware, that he has to managed the defender’s return. While Coleman has been missed, Jonjoe Kenny has stepped up in his absence and really impressed with his performances this season. Allardyce will have a tough choice about who his number one option is when Coleman returns to full fitness.
