Everton are in talks with PSV Eindhoven director of football Marcel Brands to lead an international recruitment revamp at Goodison Park, according to reports.

The Mirror claim that the 54-year-old transfer guru will be asked to supplement the work of the Toffees’ director of football Steve Walsh, and provide a more global outlook for the club.

De Telegraaf report that Brands is in the running to take over as director of football, with Walsh focusing more on scouting rather than policy matters.

The Dutch newspaper claim that Everton want a European director who is able to bring players of a higher quality to the club through an international network.

It is said that Brands is contracted to Dutch league leaders PSV until 2020, but that will not be a problem for Everton if he is interested in taking the job, for which he is one of two candidates.

Brands has has been at PSV since 2010 and has overseen a successful period of recruitment for the club, with them making big money on the sales of players such as Gini Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay and Kevin Strootman.

OPINION

This is an interesting move from Everton as they look to beef up their recruitment department. Brands has been a wanted man in England recently, with Chelsea considering him as a replacement for Michael Emanalo, who left the club two months ago. Attempts to improve European and global recruitment look to be the norm for Premier League clubs now, with Arsenal completely revamping their policy and staff this season. Everton look like they could be next, and don’t be surprised if other clubs follow.
