Burnley have been installed the clear favourites to sign Everton winger Aaron Lennon, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Bet Victor priced Sean Dyche’s high flying side at 1/3 on Saturday afternoon to land the former England international, 30, before the transfer window cut-off at the end of the month.

Burnley are way ahead in the betting race of second favourites Newcastle (14/1), while Lennon’s former club Leeds United come in at 20/1.

The Daily Mail report that Burnley, who are seventh in the Premier League table after an excellent opening half of the campaign, tried to sign Lennon on loan in the summer, but then Everton boss Ronald Koeman wanted to keep him in case Kevin Mirallas left.

After Koeman’s dismissal in October, Lennon has featured in 13 consecutive league matches overseen by David Unsworth and Sam Allardyce.

OPINION

Allardyce clearly appreciates the value of Lennon and has made him a key member of the side on the right wing since he took over as manager. The former Tottenham ace has not scored this season and only supplied two assists but he offers a threat on the counter-attack with his pace and ability to take up threatening positions. Everton would not get much of a fee if they cashed in on the veteran wide man this month – perhaps £2million at best – and are better off tabling a new two-year contract offer to a player the manager seems to really rate. Lennon is not quite the thrusting attacker of his Tottenham heyday but he is still a decent Premier League performer who would be difficult to replace.
