Arsenal fans were fuming with Per Mertesacker over his performance against Nottingham Forest as they crashed out of the FA Cup.
Gunners supporters took to social media to slam the defender despite him scoring for Arsenal.
Mertesacker’s goal wasn’t enough to help his side reach the fourth stage of the FA Cup, as Nottingham Forest scored four to ensure they got the victory, winning 4-2.
One fan questioned whether it was possible for the defender to retire in the 63rd minute and another fan believed Mertesacker’s performance made him look like a pub player.
The defender is set to retire from football at the end of the season, when his Gunners’ contract comes to end.
With this known, Mertesacker has rarely featured for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, making only five league appearances.
The 33-year-old has been at the Gunners since joining in 2011 from Werder Bremen.
Mertesacker has made a total of 219 appearances for the club and has won three FA Cups during that time.
However, the defender won’t be adding another FA Cup winner’s medal to his collection before he ends his playing career, with Nottingham Forest making sure of that.
