Arsenal face losing Reiss Nelson for free with is contract set to expire in 2019 as Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain are among several clubs monitoring his situation, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the Gunners are yet to make any progress when it comes to extending the 18-year-old’s deal.

The Daily Mail report that Nelson is tipped to be a future Premier League star due to him being a quick and skillful winger.

The hot prospect has the ability to feature on either wing, as well as being able to play through the middle as an attacking midfielder.

Nelson has risen through the youth system at the Gunners, since joining them at the age of nine, and made 11 senior appearance for the club.

The tricky winger made his senior debut against Chelsea in the Charity Shield in August and has featured six times during Arsenal’s Europa League campaign this season.

The 18-year-old is believed to have caught Real Madrid and PSG’s attention, but there is thought to be several European clubs potentially interested.

This is due to European clubs regularly monitoring Premier League academies, due to their well documented problems about graduates struggling to break into the first-team.

Good move for Arsenal?

No. If anything is learned by the club this season; it’s that contract are important to extend as soon as possible.

The Gunners look destined to lose Alexis Sanchez for way below market value and it’s still possible that Mesut Ozil will depart for free.

However, those names may be more high-profile but with Nelson’s potential; this could be an even bigger blow to see him leave for nothing.

The 18-year-old has already been exposed to senior football, and the Gunners can’t afford to drag their feet about extending his deal.

Likely to happen?

Arsenal really should have learnt their lesson about contracts, so you hope this means they’ll act quickly to tie Nelson to a long-term deal.

However, even though his contract still runs to 2019, you would have thought contract negotiations would have begun and some progress would have been made, but that doesn’t look like the case.

It’s still early days regarding other team’s interest in the star, so as long Arsenal wake up to the situation; his future still looks like being with them as it stands.
