Newcastle United have made an enquiry for striker Michael Krmencik from Czech top-flight club Viktoria Plzen, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Magpies have made an approach for the 24-year-old as Rafael Benitez looks to bolster his strike force before the transfer deadline cut-off on Wednesday.

It is understood the Premier League club have enquired about the £10million-rated centre-forward that has been in blistering form this season.

The Czech Republic international has made 20 appearances across all competitions this season for Plzen and managed 16 goals, with 11 of them coming in the league.

Newcastle have seemingly switched their attention to Krmencik after being heavily linked with chasing a new striker during the January window.

Good move for Newcastle?

At this stage Newcastle will take any sort of new striker at the club and with the January window close to it’s ending fans will be getting very nervous.

Krmencik does look like he could be the man to solve the club’s problems in attack, but there is obviously no guarantee he could replicate his good form in the Premier League.

The striker has shown he is clinical in front of goal and did manage three goals during the Europa League group stages.

The likes of Dwight Gayle and Joselu aren’t going to score the goals to save the club from relegation this season, so at this point taking a punt on Krmencik seems like a good solution so late in the transfer window.

Likely to happen?

Newcastle have made an approach to sign Plzen’s star man and the club will need to fork out £10million to help their fight against relegation.

The club’s supporters won’t believe a new signing has taken place until they see them holding up a shirt at St James’ Park, with loanee addition Kenedy from Chelsea the only new arrival so far in January.
