Italian giants Napoli are interested in signing Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen, according to a reliable journalist.

Times reporter Paul Joyce has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Serie A leaders are showing an interest in the 24-year-old.

The central midfielder has flopped since his big-money £24million switch to Goodison Park in the summer and made just 13 appearances across all competitions.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that he would allow the Dutchman to leave in the January window on loan to enjoy first-team experience elsewhere.

Good move for Everton?

Klaassen can’t get a game for the Merseyside club and has not been involved in the Premier League matchday squad since October.

A temporary exit is certainly in the best interests of the player and the club if they continue not to use him.

He was expected to make a huge impact in the Premier League this season and has found it very difficult.

The playmaker starred for Dutch giants Ajax last campaign with 20 goals and 12 assists in 50 games, but has looked a shadow of that player in England.

Klaassen needs a loan exit to find his feet again and return to the club fresh in the summer after a spell in Italy.

Likely to happen?

Everton will certainly allow Klaassen to leave in the final two days of the January window and would prefer a loan departure.

It is unclear on whether Napoli’s interest is for a loan or a permanent deal, but if it’s the former then a deal could be wrapped up pretty quickly.
