Everton have shown some real intent already in the January transfer window and kicked off things with the £27million signing of centre-forward Cenk Tosun.

The Daily Mail report that the Toffees will also complete the £25million signing of Arsenal winger Theo Walcott on Wednesday, who will be on a wage packet above £110,000-a-week.

Sam Allardcye’s side have shown their spending power in the winter window and should continue to improve their squad after a mediocre start to the season.

The Merseyside club have targeted improving their attacking areas, but they are also in need of defensive reinforcements after conceding 38 goals in 23 Premier League games.

German news outlet Bild report that Borussia Dortmund are willing to let defender Marc Bartra leave in January and Everton should pounce now to try secure his signature.

It is understood the 27-year-old would prefer a return to his homeland Spain, but the Toffees should try tempt him with a switch to the Premier League.

He is a serial winner with two Champions League medals to his name, while he also won five La Liga titles during his time at Barcelona.

Bartra is a technically gifted centre-back that would fit in well at the Premier League and walk into the Everton starting XI.

Allardyce needs to improve his options in the centre of defence, with both Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka reaching the latter stages of their career.

Meanwhile, Michael Keane has made a slow start to his Everton career and Mason Holgate is a youngster developing his trade.

Bartra is now in the peak of his career as a 27-year-old and would be a brilliant January target to try pick up.
