Finnish centre-back Aapo Halme has undergone a medical ahead of a transfer to Leeds United, according to HS.

The Finnish newspaper claim that Halme, 19, has agreed the terms of a four-and-a-half year contract with the Championship giants after his club HJK Helsinki accepted a bid of £500,000.

HS report that Halme completed a medical with Leeds on Tuesday and will put pen to paper with Leeds on Wednesday.

The centre-back is set to become Leeds’ first signing of the January window, although it has been reported in England that he will link up with the club’s development squad rather than Thomas Christiansen’s senior side.

HJK are the Finnish champions after winning the title in October by 20 points.

Good move for Leeds?

Thomas Christiansen ideally needs to add a senior centre-back in the January window, given the over-reliance on Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper. But the addition of a top young talent is always welcome, especially one of such obvious physical qualities as the 6ft 4in Finn. Halme has already made 36 senior appearances for top-flight Finnish club HJK and is a player of immense potential. But it will take time for him to settle at Elland Road. He is not an unreasonable signing, but fans will be keen for the club to bring in players for the present and not just the future.

Likely to happen?

Judging by the reports coming out of Finland and, now, Yorkshire, this is all but a done deal. HS are a reliable source of Finnish football news and the information about the deal is so precise that it appears to be genuine.
