Thomas Christiansen is keen for at least one senior Leeds United signing in the final weeks of the January window, according to a BBC journalist.

BBC Radio Leeds correspondent Adam Pope reported on his personal Twitter account that the United manager is keen for the club to strengthen despite a blitz of new arrivals at the start of the January window.

Pope explained in the aftermath of Leeds’ weekend defeat to Ipswich Town at Portman Road that it is “no secret” that Christiansen “would like a new body in the building”.

Leeds have signed five players this month, Belgian De Bock, Japan midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi, who has moved to Spanish club Cultural Leonesa on loan for the rest of the season, Finnish centre-back Aapo Halme, striker Oliver Sarkic and goalkeeper Kamil Miazek.

Three of the new arrivals are likely to spend the rest of the campaign with the Under-23s squad, with only De Bock in contention to challenge for a first-team spot.

OPINION

The weekend defeat to Ipswich demonstrated that Leeds badly need a proven player who can hit the ground running in the Championship. With De Bock signed and set to make his debut at the weekend, the team are now crying out for a new centre-forward who can offer more than Kemar Roofe, Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban and Pierre-Michel Lasogga in the targetman role. Christiansen subtly shifted his stance when speaking about his strikers last week and there is a growing sense that the manager is pushing hard for a new front man behind the scenes. The Dane will know only too well that, without a 20-goal-a-season centre-forward, it is hard to see Leeds securing a top-six finish, let alone end up in the top two.
