Aston Villa forward Birkir Bjarnason is moving closer to a return to Serie A after his agent flew into Milan, according to Tutto Mercato Web

The Italian football site report that Bjarnason’s agent, Jim Solbakken, has flown into Milan to meet his Italian business partner, Stefano Salvini.

Tutto Mercato claim that Serie A side SPAL are interested in Bjarnason’s signature, with the Iceland international previously turning out for Sampdoria and Pescara.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Bjarnason has failed to make any kind of impact at Villa since his £1.8million transfer from FC Basel one year ago.

The winger has made just 21 appearances for the Villans in that time, scoring just twice.

There does not look to be any way back into the first-team picture for the 29-year-old, and so a move away looks like the best option for all involved.

Likely to happen?

Bjarnason does not look in line to play for Villa any time soon, and with SPAL said to be interested, a deal could be struck.

With Bjarnason’s agent being in Italy too, that would suggest that movements are being made to secure a transfer this month.

No concrete interest or offers are yet to surface however, so it may be a while before anything comes to fruition.
