Rangers need to consider reinforcing their midfield options in the January transfer window and should plot a swoop to sign Aston Villa’s Aaron Tshibola on loan.

Director of football Mark Allen will control the Gers transfer business in the New Year with Graeme Murty still in charge on a temporary basis and pursing loan deals could be a wise option.

The Birmingham Mail report that Villa are planning to send out their central midfielder Tshibola on loan in January.

It is understood that several Scottish Premiership clubs are keen on is signature and that Kilmarnock are monitoring his situation, with their manager Steve Clarke previously working with the 22-year-old.

Tshibola has struggled since his £5million move to Villa Park and has already spent the first half of the season on loan with League One club MK Dons, but that deal was cut short.

Rangers should be eyeing a plan to enter the race for the Championship midfielder and pushing their league rivals aside to get him.

The Ibrox outfit need some extra bodies in the centre of the park given the injury to Graham Dorrans, while Jordan Rossiter is another player currently on the sidelines.

Tshibola’s career certainly has hit a mini blip right now after falling out of favour at Villa, but it seems like everybody is forgetting that he is still aged just 22 and has huge potential.

Rangers should look to capitalise by giving him the chance to reignite his best form in Scotland and they could do with a player of his skillset in his squad.

Tshibola can be a tough tackling powerhouse central midfielder when he is on form and was tipped for big things when he initially broke into the Reading first team as a youngster.

Villa clearly saw enough in him to fork out £5million for his signature in 2016 and he could be a real weapon at Ibrox if he can lift his confidence.
