West Ham are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund attacker Andre Schurrle in January, according to the Guardian.

The newspaper claims that Hammers manager David Moyes is keen on taking the 27-year-old on loan when the transfer window re-opens in the New Year.

It is understood the Londoners are open to taking the Germany international on loan for the second half of the season as he has fallen out of favour with Dortmund.

The report details that Moyes feels he has too many forwards in his squad right now, but could still move for attack-minded Schurrle and he does have the versatility to play in both wide or central attacking positions.

Bundesliga side Dortmund have become a real force in European football over the past five year and Schurrle has made just eight appearances for them this season without scoring.

However, he has shown in the past he can be a threat in front of goal and is also familiar to English audiences from his spell with Chelsea.

Good move for West Ham?

West Ham are just a point above the relegation zone and bringing in high-profile attacker Schurrle could be an inspired signing in January.

He would be a star at the London Stadium if he can rediscover his top form and the technically gifted player offers both pace and trickery in wide areas.

The German will be desperate to reignite his best form ahead of a World Cup next summer and would give Moyes’ side some extra quality in the final third.

West Ham could clearly also do with defensive reinforcements, but Schurrle would be a good addition going forward.?This Is Futbol rating: 8/10

Likely to happen?

West Ham are expected to be busy in January as they look to drag themselves out of relegation trouble and a move for out of favour Schurrle makes sense.

He has become a fringe player for Dortmund so far this campaign and would hardly be missed from the squad.

However, the Hammers would need to make an official approach in January for the deal to develop.
