Aston Villa are currently eyeing a move for Leicester forward Leonardo Ulloa, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The regional newspaper claims that Villa boss Steve Bruce is keen on signing a new attacker in the January transfer window and has widened his search for a new striker.

It is understood that the Midlands giants are currently monitoring Leicester’s 31-year-old target man, while Burnley’s Nahki Wells is also on their radar.

The report details that Villa expect to be active when the transfer window re-opens as Bruce looks to bring in reinforcements for youngster Keinan Davis in attack.

Ulloa has been on the fringes of the Foxes squad this season and made just four appearances across all competitions, but was an important part of the famous Leicester team who won the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season.

Good move for Villa?

There is no doubt that Villa need a new forward in January if they are to get over the line for promotion and Leicester’s ace could be the perfect signing.

Ulloa is an experienced striker that would bring great experience to the Villa squad and would provide some much needed extra firepower.

The Argentinian is every effective at leading the line with his big physical presence and also clinical in front of goal.

He has a tally of 18 goals in 83 Premier League appearances and is a big fan favourite with Leicester.

However, perhaps more importantly for Villa fans he netted 23 goals in 50 Championship appearances for Brighton and would be a top player if he dropped down a division.

Likely to happen?

Villa face a difficult task if they are to land Ulloa in January, despite the fact they are likely to receive strong financial backing.

The powerful centre-forward only signed a new deal at the King Power Stadium?? in the summer and would have to drop down to the Championship in search of more regular football.
