Rangers are close to appointing a new full-time manager at Ibrox, according to Alan Brazil.

The talkSport host has claimed in his column that the Scottish giants are on the “cusp” of naming their successor to Pedro Caixinha.

The Gers have been on a six-week search for their new boss and the announcement could be made imminently.

Rangers have been heavily linked with a swoop for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes, with the 46-year-old considered a firm favourite by most bookmakers.

The Daily Record have reported that the Gers are set to make contact with the 46-year-old on Sunday following the clash between Rangers and Aberdeen.

The report detailed that the Light Blues have drawn up plans to have McInnes in charge for the club’s next league clash against Ross County next weekend.

Rangers managed to beat McInnes’ side 2-1 at Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon as Danny Wilson and Josh Windass scored the decisive goals to lift them above the Dons to second in the league.

OPINION

Graeme Murty has had a mixed time as Rangers boss during his spell as caretaker, but appears to be leaving on a high after back-to-back to wins over Aberdeen to make their league situation seem a lot brighter. The Gers certainly have the players in their squad to at least finish second in the table and McInnes, who knows the club after a previous spell at Ibrox as a player, can help develop the current squad. They want to eventually get back to challenging Celtic and given time the current Aberdeen boss is good enough to help improve them. Rangers’ six-week search has certainly has gone on far too long and an appointment surely must be announced this week.
