Sullivan makes emphatic January pledge

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has emphatically claimed that the club will sign ‘two or three new players’ in the January transfer window.

The Hammers are undergoing somewhat of a resurgence in recent games, securing their first win under new boss David Moyes with a 1-0 win over Chelsea before a 0-0 draw with Arsenal saw them take four points from two of the league’s top teams.

An improved performance against Manchester City before that has proved to supporters that Moyes is finally managing to get through to his squad, after his first four games failed to yield a win.

Now Sullivan has pledged to supporters that Moyes will be backed in the January window as the Hammers look to climb out of relegation danger.

Speaking in the programme notes for their draw with Arsenal, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Sullivan said: “The January transfer window opens in a couple of weeks and we will be looking to strengthen the squad.

“The manager always has the final say over transfers and David is still weighing up the areas we are short in, but you can be rest assured that two or three new players will be brought in to improve the team.”

One player that Moyes has been linked with is one of Arsenal’s stars, midfielder Jack Wilshere.

Speaking before their clash, Moyes said: “I think Jack Wilshere would be someone who we’d have to look at if he was available.”

words from their chairman. It is clear that Moyes needs backing in January, but it was thought that maybe that would not be possible considering the heavy investments they made in the summer. More good news comes in the form of record signing Marko Arnautovic, who scored his first goal for the club against Chelsea and played well against Arsenal. That will ease the pressure on Moyes to recruit in January, but the Scot will still be looking to stamp his mark on the squad with a few January signings.
