Ray Wilkins has urged Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to get the cheque book out and secure their striker Harry Kane down to a £150million deal.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that Spurs need to ensure the long-term future of the 24-year-old due to his brilliant form.

He set a new Premier League record of 39 goals in a calendar year on Boxing Day and is a talisman in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Wilkins has claimed they must try to tie down the future of England international Kane for the next 10 years if they can and that Levy needs to act quickly.

“I think Daniel Levy should be sitting with him and saying ‘look here’s £150m – sign for 10 years’,” Wilkins said, as quoted by Sky Sports’ transfer centre (11:55am, Wednesday 27th December).

“That’s a lot of money but it’s only £15m a year. Now if Tottenham want to replace him, first and foremost it’s going to cost you a lot of money.

“Secondly, where do you find the quality of Harry Kane at this moment in time? Plus if you keep Harry you’ll entice other big players into your club.”

OPINION

Kane has proven in recent years he is one of the best centre-forwards in world football and recently capped off an exceptional 2017. The Englishman has become very consistent in the Premier League recently and will be vital in future years if Spurs are to finally get over the line in the pursuit of silverware. He is good enough to play for the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid in the future, but the north London club do need to ensure his long-term future. However, Kane has now reached a level now where he must start winning trophies and it could be difficult for even his boyhood club to keep him without success. Levy has been reluctant to spend large sums of money and it would be a big ask to fork out £150million for one player.
