Tottenham have had a £31million bid rejected by Bordeaux for in-form forward Malcolm, according to Esporte.

The Brazilian news outlet claim that Spurs have tried to beat Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal to the signing of the Brazil Under-23 international by lodging an offer before the window opens.

Esporte report that Bordeaux unwilling to let their young star, 20, depart next month and rebuffed the bid.

The versatile wide man, who can play on either flank or in a central role, has been in impressive form this season, with seven goals and five assists in his 20 appearances across all competitions.

He arrived in France from Brazilian side Corinthians back in January 2016, and has a total 78 appearances under his belt for Bordeaux, netting 18 goals and chipping in with 13 assists.

Good move for Tottenham?

Perhaps. Malcom has been one of the star players in Ligue 1 this season, despite everyone lying in Paris Saint-Germain’s shadow. His impressive goal return is only four less than Neymar and have come for a side in a lowly 15th in the league. Would the Brazilian rising star immediately improve the Tottenham starting XI. Probably not, but he has the potential to become a serious player once he has got his feet under the table.

Likely to happen?

News of Spurs’ bid may well attract more interest, not least from Premier League rivals, and a bidding war could materialise. The French side can try and keep hold of their star man, but it is just a matter of time before one of the big boys makes an offer they cannot refuse. Will that be Spurs? That awaits to be seen and a January transfer seems unlikely at this stage.
