Tottenham are among the Premier League big hitters keeping close tabs on £20million-rated Sheffield United wonderkid David Brooks as the scramble for his signature hots up, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that Spurs and Premier League rivals Liverpool and Everton have monitored the 20-year-old attacking midfielder regularly throughout the season as the Blades are braced for a bombardment of bids.

The Mirror report that United will cash in on the young gun during the forthcoming January window if they are made an offer “they can’t refuse”.

United manager Chris Wilder has revealed he has held several conversations with other clubs over the future of Brooks.

As quoted by the Mirror, Wilder said: ”There’s a lot of off-the-record conversations, whether it be agents, or even clubs themselves asking what we are doing.

“But nothing changes from my point of view. David is not for sale because he is part and parcel of what we are doing going forward.”

Good move for Tottenham?

Brooks is an exciting young talent good enough to have already secured two full Wales caps. His game time has been closely managed by Wilder at Sheffield United this season, with many of his 21 appearances coming as a substitute. This explains why his goal and assist tally is nothing to write home about. But the number of clubs watching him closely is evidence of his vast potential, as have been a series of exciting cameos. He is a rising star rather than an established one and fits well into Spurs’ policy of snapping up youthful talent.

Likely to happen?

A move to Spurs to work under Mauricio Pochettino is an alluring prospect for any Championship attacker, but rivals Liverpool and Everton also have track records of signing and developing young talent. It is far from a foregone conclusion that Tottenham would blow their two well-heeled rivals out of the water.
