Tottenham Hotspur are mulling over a concrete January bid for PSV Eindhoven sensation Steven Bergwijn, according to the Sun

Spurs are set to be in a battle with Serie A outfit Torino for the 20-year-old winger, who has emerged as a star this season for Eredivisie leaders PSV.

Torino reportedly had a £9million bid for Bergwijn rejected in the summer, but are still keen on the winger, with West Ham and Bournemouth also showing interest.

Bergwijn has scored twice in 15 appearances this term after breaking into the first-team from the academy a couple of years ago.

He is a Netherlands U-21 international who plays on the right wing, but can also play on the opposite flank and up top as a striker, and is known for his outstanding dribbling ability.

Good move for Tottenham Hotspur?

Bergwijn is obviously very highly-rated, and is a product of a PSV academy that has produced countless world-class talents over the years.

Whether Bergwijn would slot straight into senior duties is not known, but he is undoubtedly an exciting player to watch in the future.

Spurs are in desperate need of an incisive winger who can run with the ball, with Son Heung-Min and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou the only wingers in the squad, and Bergwijn may be what they are looking for.

But he is still only 20, and therefore still a raw talent. This would be a signing for the future, not for right now.

Likely to happen?

The report states that Tottenham are an attractive prospect for the youngster, but the most likely outcome here is that PSV retain his services until the summer.

But, if Spurs were able to secure an agreement for his transfer and then loan him back to Eindhoven, that would be deal that works for all parties.

Bergwijn is the kind of player that Pochettino is going to need to look at amid the costs of Spurs’ new stadium next year, as he will not cost a lot of money.

There is obvious competition for his signature, although as the report suggests, Tottenham look the most attractive option for a young player like Bergwijn.
