Liverpool line up three January signings

Liverpool are lining up January bids for megastars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Virgil van Dijk, according to the Express.

The newspaper claims Jurgen Klopp is preparing to sign three new players in the winter window next month in order to stay in touch in the Premier League title race.

The Express report that Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang, Southampton centre-back Van Dijk and a new goalkeeper are on the wanted list of the Anfield manager.

It is said that Liverpool are preparing a bid for Aubameyang as the possibility grows that Daniel Sturridge could quit the club next month in search of regular first-team football.

OPINION

Liverpool fans would think Santa was real if their Christmas present was the arrivals of a trio of stars, including Van Dijk and Aubameyang. In fact, they would settle for just one of the three, given that the last major January signings made by American owners FSG were Philippe Coutinho and Sturridge himself in 2013. The possibility of Van Dijk swapping the south coast for Merseyside has been on the agenda for a long time, but there has never been a sense that signing Gabon goal machine Aubameyang was ever a genuine possibility. He has been in hot water at Dortmund this season but it is hard to see the German outfit selling such a key player in the middle of the season. His goal record remains extraordinary, 17 from 19 matches in the current campaign after 40 in 46 appearances last season, and 39 goals from 49 games in 2015-16, Herr Klopp’s final season at Dortmund. Aubameyang is like a quick version of Harry Kane. Surely, such a major deal cannot be done next month?
