Richard Dunne has made the doomsday prediction that Tottenham will miss out on the Champions League places, with the current Premier League top four being what he expects.

The retired defender spoke of the race to finish in the top four while working as a pundit for BT Sport during Manchester City’s game against Crystal Palace.

Dunne listed the top four teams, citing Manchester City were “already there” before agreeing to Jake Humphrey’s statement that the top four will stay the same come the end of the season.

This means as it stands Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool would qualify for the Champions League.

The pundit admitted that “Tottenham are playing well with Harry Kane scoring goals”, but suggested they will only get “close” to being in the top four.

Dunne suggested Manchester United as the only team that he could see falling down the table, if they didn’t improve their form.

Michael Owen chipped in and shared that he thought Spurs still had a chance and that it would come down to a race between them and Manchester United.

Opinion

While Liverpool have been in prolific goalscoring form, Tottenham are only a point behind them if they win their game in hand. So while the pundits are quick to believe the Reds will get Champions League football again, Spurs shouldn’t be forgotten about so quickly. Liverpool have their flaws and are yet to go through a tough period, something Tottenham have gone through and learnt from. While the pundits suggested Manchester United were catchable, it simply isn’t a race between two teams.
