Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction that Jack Wilshere is not in the team to face Southampton in the Premier League at lunchtime on Sunday.

The midfielder is on the substitute’s bench as he is forced to wait once again for his first league start of the season despite a fine showing in the Europa League in midweek.

Wilshere scored his first goal of the campaign against minnow BATE Borisov in a 6-0 demolition to lead to calls from a significant section of the Gunners fan base for him to be recalled to the starting XI for weekend fixtures.

But manager Arsene Wenger has ignored the claims of the academy product and put his faith in favoured central midfield pair of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka for the trip to St Mary’s Stadium.

The decision to omit Wilshere from the starting XI has particularly frustrated supporters, with many taking to social media to insist he should have been selected ahead of fellow southpaw Xhaka.
