Arsenal fans have voiced their frustration on Twitter after Francis Coquelin failed once again to make an impact as they thrashed BATE Borisov 6-0 in the Europa League.
Coquelin has struggled for game time this season, playing mostly in cup competitions for the Gunners in his 12 appearances so far.
A hamstring injury has disrupted his season, with Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey preferred by Arsene Wenger in the middle of the park.
The 26-year-old Frenchman started last season as one of Wenger’s first choices in central midfield, but has slowly fallen out of first-team contention, now having to make do with a bit-part role.
He got the chance to impress once again in the Europa League against BATE, but failed to make a meaningful impact even as Arsenal ran riot with a six-goal win.
There were six different goalscorers for Arsenal, with right-back Mathieu Debuchy opening the scoring with a rare goal, before Theo Walcott got on the scoresheet with a tap-in.
Jack Wilshere staked his claim for a starting spot in the league with a fine solo effort, before an own goal, Olivier Giroud penalty, and Elneny curled finish capped off a productive night for the Gunners.
Coquelin on the other hand, is still yet to score for Arsenal despite making 157 appearances for the Gunners.
Arsenal had already secured top-spot in the group, and so it was a chance to let loose and play with some freedom, but fans were frustrated at Coquelin’s performance in the circumstances.

Almost safe to say after tonight’s game that Francis Coquelin may never score a goal throughout his Arsenal career. All the unlikely goalscorers got a goal to their names except Le Coq

Wow, seeing Coquelin walking off at the end. Forgot he was actually playing. Did we score 6 with 10 men?? #AFCvBATE

Disappointing that Coquelin didn’t get in on the act amongst the goals. Good things come to those who wait. I will wait. It will happen one day.
