Rangers manager Graeme Murty deliveredĀ a worrying update of Bruno Alves following the defender picking up an injury in the 0-0 draw with Celtic on Saturday.

The Gers boss shared that Alves was wearing a protective boot and on crutches after he was subbed off 17 minutes into the old firm derby.

Murty told the Scottish Sun: “Bruno is in a lot of pain, he is on crutches at the moment, wearing a boot.”

It was originally thought that Alves had taken a knock to his ankle in the game, but Murty revealed it could be an injury to either “his calf or his ankle.”

Alves has already had missed a few games for the Light Blues this season due to an injury, and now looks set to miss at least a few more.

However, Murty did insist that it is too early to get clear assessment, and he is waiting on more information before commenting further.

Opinion

Alves is an experienced player that Rangers would rather not be without in the second-half of the season. Hopefully for the Gers sake, the protective boot and crutches are just the club being safe, because otherwise they suggest a significant spell on the sidelines. The only positive about the injury occurring, if there is such a thing, is that it has happened before the January window as that could provide Rangers with an option of getting a replacement. However, Murty will be revealed that David Bates impressed in Alves’ place against Celtic on Saturday.
